Llys Awelon Retirement Housing : Steplift

Pollock Lifts was approached early in the project directly by READ Construction who had previously seen one of our Classic StepLifts at one of their clients’ sites.

It was exactly what they required on their latest project ‑ Llys Awelon in Ruthin, Denbighshire, Wales, a new extra care housing scheme.

Client Requirements

The project is partnership between Denbighshire Council, Grŵp Cynefin and the Welsh Government. READ construction was appointed as the Main Contractor.

The project involves the complete redevelopment of the existing Llys Awelon retirement housing complex, to create a modern, low-carbon, purpose-built scheme to meet the needs of older residents in the Denbighshire area.

The redevelopment involved building a brand-new block, adding 25 self-contained apartments.

READ Construction was looking for a simple, cost-effective product with minimum preparatory work as they needed 5 of these lifts installed on site.

Our Solution

Our base model was ideal for this as no pit is required and it has no complicated fold up ramp.

The option of surface mounted landing controls meant they did not need to form cable runs in the building fabric which would have been problematic for them.

The simplistic design of the lift with straight stainless-steel handrails and glazed side panels fits in well with the stair balustrade. 

The lifts are safe and very simple to use, so the residents can use them unassisted.

The fact that they are fully battery powered with easy-to-use emergency lowering system gives them reassurance should they have a power failure.

The first 3 Lifts were delivered and installed and handed over on time with no issues per agreement. The remaining two lifts are scheduled for installation later this year.
